Inauguration

Hunnicut Zendo

After sitting for at least 10 years at Grace United Methodist Church, MKZC was able to acquire a unique property at Hunnicut Drive at the end of the year 2000.  The sangha finally moved there in January of 2001 and had our inauguration on March 25, 2001.

Among our guests, we were honored to have Sr. Pascaline Coff, OSB, then superior of Osage Monastery in Sand Springs, Oklahoma, Lama Dudjom Dorjee, head of KarmaThegsum Choling Tibetan Buddhist Center in Dallas,  Fr. Dan Clayton, Catholic priest from Dallas Diocese, Joan Rieck, Zen Teacher (and dharma sister of Ruben Habito), plus past presidents of the MKZC, including  John Douglas, Dawne Schoemer, Bob Curry, Chris Runk, Don Champlin, and others.

After many years of continued practice at the Hunnicut zendo, the MKZC board decided to sell the property and seek another suitable location in North Dallas. Among these locations included  Dallas Meditation Center, Northaven Methodist Church, Lovers Lane Methodist Church, Preston Hollow United Methodist Church, before moving to the White Rock United Methodist Church in 2014, where MKZC currently conducts its zen meditation sessions.
